Microporous membranes could be useful for applications in repairing tissues, which require high oxygenation rates and/or cell sorting processes. Porous, nanofibrous bacterial cellulose membranes were produced in our group by the bacterium Acetobacter xylinum. Polymeric pins were used as in situ pore formers during biosynthesis. After removal from the polymeric template the film was dried at programmable temperature ramp.
