According to a classical Chemical Engineering methodology, which is based on conservation mass balance, the present work intends to model the Fragile X mental retardation protein (FMRP) function in the translation regulatory system at neurons. FMRP functions are not clear, but some experimental evidences suggest that it is involved in mRNA shuttles from nucleus to cytoplasm, in mRNA transport to dendrites and it is involved in some mRNAs translation at the synapses. The model was constructed based on literature experimental evidences using Metabolic Fluxes Analysis (MFA). MFA uses some experimental data, mass balances and stoichiometric relationship to estimate the fluxes of the molecules and complexes involved in the regulatory process.
