What is tissue engineering? PDF Print

Tissue engineering is a multidisciplinary area of research and development devoted to either improve or replace cells, tissues and organs. One important aspect of the tissue engineer’s job is to design Tissue Engineering Medical Products (TEMPs). In order to do that, the tissue engineer needs to fulfill a great number of interdisciplinary concepts. Biological functions, physiology, and anatomy are part of the medical “branch”; mathematical modeling and simulation is in the realm of engineering. Between those two there are several other issues to be approached, from basic stem cell research to advanced material properties.
